This is my indepenent project that has been under works for the past while. It may look short but I focused on quality over quantity, and the timing and motion. It has around 270 frames at 24 fps.
Independent Project Statement
The style of the animation is very basic, black and white; stickman, and his environment. The main influences of the animation are the popular stickfigure animations found on youtube. Another big influence is parkour, which is what the animation is based on, and is how I got my reference videos. I use a software called Adobe Animate. I draw the frames on a wacom tablet, and usually draw 24 frames per second. There is no copying or tracing in the animation other than the ellipse head. I learned through this project that I am much more motivated to finish it, when it looks good so far. Meaning that I am less motivated, when I don't have a particular skill set down that is needed for the project yet. My favorite part of the animation is when the stickfigure struggles to pull himself onto the wall. It was tough animating this part to make it look fluid, but after lots of patience it turned out good. If I could change one part about this animation, it would be the roll after the wall drop. To me, the roll looks too mechanical and next time I would add more movement to the spine. During the creation process of the piece it surprised me how enjoyable animation can be if you get into “the zone”. I was able to do hours of quality animation at a time, and it was very fun. I would like to share that this piece was experimental, as it was the first project I've done in this medium before. Furthermore, I do think I can do better, and am going to continue to practise and improve my skills for this amazing visual format.
